Outcomes and Testimonials

Evidence-based healing designed specifically for the veteran experience

A New Day for Those Who Served

Project New Day is grounded in evidence-based practices and supported by measured outcomes collected across multiple program cohorts.

Our outcomes study was designed with advisory support from the following experts:

  • Crystal Smith, PhD, Lead Principal Investigator for the Laboratory for Innovations in Therapeutics at Washington State University
  • David B. Yaden, PhD, Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
  • Brian Anderson, MD, Psychiatrist and Professor at the UCSF School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry

In 2024 and 2025, we worked with combat veterans referred by:

  • The First Battalion Fifth Marines Association
  • The Saber Six Foundation (1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Army)

We administered study questionnaires at the beginning and end of the program. Crystal Smith, PhD, performed the data analysis.

Across the cohorts, 79% of participants completed the full 13-week program. While the program is intentionally structured to foster gradual, sustainable change over time, statistically significant improvements were already evident across multiple domains of well-being at program completion. Participants experienced reductions in:

  • Depression by 47%
  • Anxiety by 40%
  • Pain interference by 33%
  • Alcohol use by 52%
  • Pain intensity by 21%

Additional improvements were observed in these domains:

  • Self-compassion
  • Sleep disturbance
  • General health

Veterans also reported increased clarity, improved emotional regulation, stronger relationships, and a renewed sense of agency and purpose.

Data are based on pre- and post-program self-report measures. Outcomes were consistent across both one-on-one (2024) and group telehealth (2025) formats.

Notably, 100% of participants reported they would recommend the Project New Day program to others.

While healing is a personal process and individual results vary, these findings demonstrate that when delivered with fidelity, the Project New Day program can produce meaningful, measurable change for combat veterans.
